KD Games
My name is Gary Cambell-Smith and I am the owner of KD Games on Shoreham High Street. I have lived in Shoreham for over 20 years, moving here as a short term stop and falling in love with the town and its people and deciding to stay.
I have worked in retail all my life and had always wanted to open my own toy store. I was a manager for a national store working long days and not seeing much of my family, so when the opportunity presented itself I decided become self employed and open Kids Dreams.
Kids Dreams was a toy store in Boundary Road, Hove and started trading in 2007 followed by a second store in Shoreham in 2011, which used to be opposite what was then Blockbuster Video. As well as toys we also sold card games and board games and stayed open late to run regular gaming evenings and events.
Unfortunately our toy shops closed in 2013 but I still wanted the local community to have somewhere to buy, learn, talk about and play games. KD Games opened later that same year and although we have moved a few times since then we have been in Shoreham ever since. Next year will be our 10th year trading in Shoreham and we look forward to being able to celebrate it.
From 2014 until 2016 I helped to organize CONQUEST a local gaming convention with the games club GAMBIT GAMES, something that I hope to do again in the future as it was such a positive experience and great opportunity to introduce games to local families.
We were very please to move back to the High Street in 2019. We now specialize in card games, with our best sellers being Pokemon and Magic the Gathering. We not only sell these games, we play them too, staying open late once more as a venue for people to meet up. I have loved seeing the gaming community in our town grow and getting to know the people of Shoreham and its surrounding areas. Many of our regulars started playing Pokemon when they we 7 or 8 years old and like me and my family have never grown out of playing games.
